Grant Cox dreamed of running onto Doug Kingsmore Stadium from the time he was a young boy. He spent his entire life and young adulthood preparing to be the best that he could be at the game of baseball. One of his greatest memories is committing to his lifelong dream of being a Clemson Tiger at the age of 15.

Grant spent most of his life preparing for his dream-- to play baseball for Clemson University. Cox is a graduate of Greenville High School, where he had a tremendous high school career. One which provided him the opportunity to sign a pro contract with the Cincinnati Reds in the 7th Round. Grant respectfully declined the offer to pursue his dream of playing for Clemson. Having both the opportunity to play baseball and football at Clemson University, Grant stuck with his childhood dream, which was running out onto Doug Kingsmore in front of thousands. Grant arrived at Clemson in the summer of 2015, and due to his dedication, determination, consistency, and hard work, he positioned himself to start as a true freshman.

Unfortunately, events began to hit hard for Grant. He went through four major surgeries, each with long stints of rehabilitation. Luke Hoyer, Grant's first cousin, was murdered in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas school shooting in Parkland, Florida. On top of that, he lost two significant mentors and a dear friend. These are only a few of the many hardships Grant and his family faced over the past few years. The most recent will not be disclosed until deemed appropriate. He does, however, share the unbelievable strength of his family and the scripture that continues to provide them daily comfort and the will to continue to fight through adversity, Isaiah 41: 10-13.

 

Through tragedy, sometimes, people find their purpose in life. Grant found his purpose: encouraging those who are struggling, using his pain to help others get through theirs, and empowering others to LIVE WITH PASSION because you have a life worth living!
